MEET CANCELLED
Due to the current situation the Club have also made the decision to cancel our Learn to Swim and Mike Le Gry Galas later in the year
Head Coach Rpt
The Blacklion Development Meet started off like any other one day meet with a relatively early start. We started a new system where we created a buddy system pairing up established swimmers with those less established or totally new to the world of competitive swimming. This was to reduce the levels of stress in the new swimmers and I think that it worked rather well. The management of this was overseen by the captains. We were fortunate enough to have had both our ladies captain and vice captain to assist with this and they worked really well together.
We put together a team of coaches/teachers who had set rolls. This worked really well and provided us with everything that we needed. We were able to get most of the times as well as communicate before and after the races with most of the swimmers. This is a method that we should adopt for all our events going forward.
Our swimmers converted 55% of swims to PB’s (personal best times) 43 out of 78 swims. We had 7% DQ’s mostly from our younger swimmers as a direct result of inexperience, but there was one or two which left us scratching our heads. 8% of the events entered weren’t swum, this was partly due to the over running of the meet . It was a long day for all of us with the meet over running both in the morning and the afternoon, the last event finishing about 8pm.
Overall a good meet from us with a good mix of younger and older swimmers. We did lack in the boys department though as the boys were severely outnumbered by the girls. Our next development meet we should aim to put a bigger team together, it is always more enjoyable with a bigger team.

Time Trials 2019
We are going to hold time trials for Green hats to Silver Hats 3 times a year in addition to the squad championships.
We have decided the first one will be on Sunday the 3rd of March at 08.00am. All groups should arrive before 8.00 to be able to start the warm up on time so we can fit as many races in as possible. This includes the oranges and Maroons who usually start at 9.00. For those groups who finish at 9.00 you should expect to stay for the two hours so your races can be spread across the two hours to give plenty of rest to achieve great times.
The top squad will be still training so there will be a minimum of 3 lanes used for the time trial.
We will look to put a programme together of 25m, 50m and 100m races for the different hats depending on the colour of the hat and where they should be in their progress.
Time trials are an important part of the progression of a swimmer and particularly for the younger swimmers to give them an opportunity to start to understand what would happen in a gala.
We will need parents to help with time keeping and keeping the children motivated during the breaks between races so volunteers will be really appreciated.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
Well done to Brandon (and Caitlin of TSC!) at Swim England SC Champs at the weekend. A full report is below. Congratulations to both.
